Today was a very productive day! We took our word study assessment and glued our word study words. In writing workshop we learned the parts of a friendly letter (heading, greeting, body, closing, and signature) and practiced writing one as a class to our previous student teacher, Mr. F. We then had a chance to start writing a friendly letter to the person of our choice.
In reading workshop, the Green Gators read the story "Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon" and then brainstormed different character traits of the main character. We then wrote about one of these traits and gave examples from the story of when the character displayed this trait. The Red Rhinos shared their writing for stepping into stories for the "Little Red Head."
In math, the Green Gators played the games "double compare" and "10s go fish" to practice the counting on skill and comparing numbers. The Red Rhinos reviewed the various kinds of word problems that we've learned and practiced the procedures for solving these problems. We then took the rest of our assessment.
In science both the Red Rhinos and the Green Gators experimented with the way that air takes up space by placing a vial of air upside down in a tub of water, and observed how the pocket of air stays in the vial when it's submerged.
