What a GREAT learning day we had today. We started our morning with a Spanish morning meeting. After monring meeting we discussed our making words activity. We tried to make words from the letters in director (spanish) and covers (english). Ask your child what words they were able to make from these letters. After morning meeting, we started writng workshop. Today we learned the steps that a writer takes to write a minilesson. We learned that writers get an idea for what they would write from the lifebook, then get a picture of what we want to write in our mind. Next, we point to the pages and say what we will write, then we sketch our pictures, and finally we write our words. In reading workshop we once again worked to identify character traits. In math, the red rhinos came up with number sentences for the number 34 and practiced using a ruler. The green gators learned what an equation is and learned how to correctly use the equals and not equals sign. We ended our day with social studies and read aloud. Some students worked with Senorita Wesley to learn places in our community and to identify where we live, work, and play in the community. The students who worked with Mrs. Helfer reada non-ficition book that supports these ideas.
