Today was a GREAT day! We started off our morning with the question of the day and our morning meeting in Spanish. Our question was: De que forma prefieres viajar?, which means, "How do you like to travel?", and our choices were: en avion, (airplane), caminando (walking), autobus (bus), carro (car), or bicicleta (bicycle). We learned that most of our friends prefer to travel by bus (23 friends), 8 friends like to travel by plane, 4 friends prefer the car, and 1 friend chose bicycle. We compared these numbers using the following number sentences: 23 > 8, 8 > 4, 4 > 0, and 0 < 4.
During our Reading Workshop time, our friends did a GREAT job practicing read to self. We are continuing to work on building our stamina, and are up to 18 minutes of sustained reading independently. We continue to work hard on being more independent and making good learning choices about where is a good spot to read quietly, and what good reading looks like and sounds like in our classroom. We also revisited what Read to Someone looks like. Ask your child what it means to sit "EEKK!" with a partner when reading aloud! Also, we talked about what it should sound like, and what the teacher and students should be doing during Reading Workshop time.
After Reading workshop, the Green Gators practiced handwriting, including the capital letters U, V< W, X, Y, and Z. The Red Rhinos practiced writing the center starting capitals using the second grade writing paper. After handwriting, we did math. The Green Gators practiced showing number flashes and counting numbers with tens and ones on our hands. The Red Rhinos practiced making math mountains, and making partners for numbers. Ask your child what a math mountain is!
