Thursday, October 15th

A busy, busy day today in C-7 & C-8. We delivered churros (a Spanish desert) to all of the students at EV in honor of Hispanic Heritage month. Thank you to some great parents for spending your day frying this special treat.

We started our morning with an English morning message. Our number today was 60. We made another group of 10 and wrote equations that equal 50. Our question of the day was, Have you ever climbed a Tree? We learned that 26 students have climbed a tree and 12 have not. We determined that the number of students that have climbed a tree is greater than the number of students that have not climbed a tree.

After morning meeting, we shared the words that we were able to make from the letters in the words PELICULA and FEATHERS. Ask your child to share with you the words that they were able to make. After making words, we had writing workshop. In writing workshop we learned of another author Robert McCluskey (author of make ways for ducklings) that lives the writerly life and used the things that he saw around him to come up with the stories he writes. Ask your child to tell you the story of how Robert McCluskey had some live ducks actually move into his tiny apartment! After we heard Robert McCluskey's story, we spent some time writing in our lifebooks. To end the morning we spent some time engaged in our daily 5 routines. Today we were introduced to listening to reading and used our first daily fiver checklist to guide our daily 5 work.

After lunch we enjoyed a shot story about Churros and ate our tasty treat. Then we completed our number of the day books. Today's number was 20. Ask your child to share with you the ways that he or she was able to make the number 20. In math, the red rhinos had a yard sale. We worked on using our coin strips to learn how to make change. The green gators, worked on sequencing numbers.
