Today was another busy and exciting day in C-7 and C-8. Our morning message was n Spanish, and our question of the day was: Como te sientes cuando ves a un perro? (How do you feel when you see a dog?) We learned that ALL of our friends are HAPPY when they see a dog, so we showed this using the number sentences 39 > 0, and 0 <39.
During the later part of our morning, we learned how we can pick good books that are JUST RIGHT for us. We learned the phrase I PICK, which stands for: P(urpose), I(nterest), C(omprehension), and K(now). This acronym will help us remember that when we pick books for our bag of books, we have different purposes for reading, as well as different interests, which we will think about when selecting books from the library. We also built our stamina and read independently for 16 minutes!
After lunch we completed our number of the day books. Today's number was 15. Ask your child to share with you the ways he or she was able to make the number 15 with number sentences and coins. After our number of the day work, we split into groups for math. The red rhinos worked on finding the partners for 10 (these are the numbers that can be ut together to equal ten). We charted these partners and found a pattern! We learned that you can switch the partners around and it will still equal ten (9+1=10 and 1+9=10). We also noticed that if one partner gets bigger the other gets smaller. Ask your child to name the partners for 10. The green gators worked on finding partners for the number 7. After math, we worked on handwriting. The red rhinos and green gators continue to review the formation of capital letters and are still working on using the first and second grade handwriting paper correctly.
