JUNE1, 2009

Welcome back everyone! I hope everyone had a great weekend, and hopefully got to see the air show!

We started off our Monday morning by cuting out our letters for "Making Words", 1st graders wrote in their dialogue journals, and everyone else got out their bag of books! Many students came in telling us how they saw the jets fly over their houses! It sure was loud!

Morning message was in spanish, and we did our poem on the week which was "Kite" for the kindergarteners, and _____________ for the first graders. We circled words that we know, and underlined words that rhymed! We went back to our seats and read through the poem independently by ourselves 2 times, circled words that we know, and drew a picture using atleast 4 colors! From here, we went right into the Daily 5. We needed a couple reminders to be more focused and lower our voices, but we got alot accomplished! We worked in small groups to work on "Making Words", and figured out what the big word was! Have fun working on these at home and coming up with other words!

Mrs. Keefer came in around 10:45 and we did a new book called "Mia's Story." We are now focusing on Setting in the book. We found out that Mia lives in a dump and uses scraps to make her house, and she is very poor. We read up to the part where she starts going up the mountain to find her run-away dog. We went back to our seats and drew a picture of the setting from the beginning of the story. On wednesday we will continue with this!

Considering it looked like it was going to rain outside, we took the students to the multipurpose room to do a couple relay races.

We came back and Seniorita Wesley did a spanish read aloud with our friends. We had a long time for math today- 1 hour! Kindergarteners learned two new games today- Totals of 6, and Racing Bears. Have your student explain how to play these games and they would be great games to play at home for addition practice!

Makre SURE YOU LOOK IN THE MONDAY FOLDERS!! There is a reminder sheet for our fieldtrip to the zoo next week! There will also be another slip coming home this week as a reminder for what parents signed up for volunteering to go to the zoo, which parents will be riding the bus with us, and which parents will be meeting us there. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP!
