June 3, 2009

Good afternoon! We started off our day with doing morning message in spanish, and we introduced some new things that we will be incorporating into math next year! We decided to do this during morning meeting so students become familiar with the activities, and when fall comes, they will remember how to do them!

After morning meeting we went into writing workshop. Students are fixing up last minute details to their Autobiographies, so we can have our publishing party on Friday!

We had a long writing time today, so daily 5 was a bit shorter. We read the rest of the book "Mia's story", and discussed how the setting changed at the end. We noticed that the dump turned beautiful from the flowers that Mia planted. Students went back to their seats and drew the setting of the end of the story. On Friday, we will re-read the book as a whole group, discuss again how the setting changed from the beginning to the end, and then the students will go back and independently write a response to the book about setting! We then went into the rest of daily 5 for about 20 minutes, until lunch time!

We went outside for recess and enjoyed the warm weather :-) We came inside and finished the book the book "Frog and Toad are Friends." We went into social studies, and switched groups. We learned about symbols and found different areas on the map and we realized that they are all symbols! From there we had a bit of extra time and read about respect.

In math, the kindergarteners did a quick assessment of what they learned during the "How Many In All" unit. We did very well!!!

DONT FORGET~ 1st graders are going on their field trip to MCC tomorrow to see a play! Make sure all students wear their purple English Village shirts tomorrow!
