What beautiful smiles we all had in our school pictures today. You are all going to just love them!!! This morning the green gators, reviewed the sound the "ch" makes. Ian shared the collection of things that he found at home that starts with the "ch" sound. He found Cheetos and change. Today's sound was "sh." Tolulope was chosen to be our expert. We are looking forward to her collection of items that start with the "sh" sound tomorrow. The red rhinos read a book that focused on the spanish letter "cd." We practiced words that start with the letter "c" like casa (house), cama (bed), cabra (goat). After that we worked with our persoanl readers. The green gators practiced reading their stories to their partners. The red rhino practiced reading their stories fluently. After our trip to get our pictures taken, we practiced "Read to Self." We were able to indpendently read for 16 minutes today!!! Wow!!! Ask your child what books they read during this time. We also practiced a new routine that we will be doing during our Reading Workshop time. This is called Read to Someone. The students are learning to check for understanding and echo read. Ask your child to explain how they do each of these new routines.

In the afternoon, we enjoyed hearing a story. The green gators listened to the story Snowy Day. We will be using this story to help us as writers tomorrow. In handwriitng the green gators practiced writing the letter B. We learned that to make the letter B, you have to drw a big line down, frog jump to the top, make a little curve to the middle, and then make a little curve to the bottom. HJave your child practice making the letter B at home. In mathematics, the red rhinos had a number talk about money again. They learned how the symbol for greater than and less than. Ask them to show you these signs at home. You may also ask them to tell you about the coins that we have been learning about in class. The green gators identified quanties of objects in Spanish and started working on their math number books. They also are learning to count in Spanish. Ask them to show you how!
